Laura Whitmore hits back at claims she 'humiliated' dumped contestant

Laura Whitmore has responded after she was accused of trying to "humiliate" Remi Lambert during the latest instalment of Love Island: Aftersun. The presenter spoke to the newly-dumped contestant on the reality spin-off show on Sunday, June 19 after he was the latest Islander to exit the villa.

A new recoupling over the weekend saw Danica Taylor choose Luca Bish, while Gemma Owen — who was left single after Luca was stolen — chose to recouple with Davide Sanclimenti. With all the other pairings confirmed, including Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Jay Younger, bombshell Remi was ejected from the villa.

After his departure, Remi appeared on Love Island: Aftersun to discuss his time in the villa. During his appearance, however, he was asked to deliver an "exclusive rap" after he previously performed an on-the-spot rap for his fellow contestants when entering the villa.

While Remi nervously accepted, many people in the studio were left watching through their fingers after he was unable to think of a final line. Viewers at home also took to Twitter to criticise the interview.

One fan wrote: "Please tell me you guys are watching Aftersun... Laura Whitmore made Remi do a farewell rap and the awkwardness killed me. The wind and the silence..."

While another added: "Poor Remi, he looked broken on after sun and then they made him rap again."

And a third commented: "Hope #LoveIsland supports Remi He looked broken on #Loveislandaftersun Asking him to rap was done in bad faith and to humiliate. I thought @thewhitmore & crew were supposed to "BE KIND"

But Laura has since clarified the situation, explaining that Remi had been asked to prepare the rap prior to the show, and suggested he was nervous. Responding to the above comment, Laura wrote: "Remi is a rapper and asked in good faith in advance if he'd rap and prepare something which he did.

"Live Telly is nerve wrecking, believe me, so maybe he was a bit nervous but he deserved to have his time. Also I want to make Remi & Afia happen!"

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub. Episodes are available the following morning on BritBox. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
