Laura Kuenssberg to take over from Andrew Marr as presenter of BBC Sunday politics show

Laura Kuenssberg is to take over from Andrew Marr as the presenter of the BBC’s flagship Sunday morning politics show.

Kuenssberg is stepping down as the BBC’s political editor next month and is expected to start hosting the interview show, currently presented by Sophie Raworth, later this year.

Kuenssberg, who was political editor for the BBC since 2015, the first woman to hold the position.

The Sunday morning programme was previously known as The Andrew Marr Show, which the Scottish journalist presented for 16 years before leaving the BBC at the end of 2021.

In a tweet Kuenssberg said: “I couldn’t be more delighted. For decades, Sunday morning has been the moment to explore the events that shape us and to challenge and listen to our politicians.

“It’s an honour to take the chair for that conversation in the 2020s.”

Kuenssberg, 45, was one of three frontrunners for the coveted presenting role. Her replacement as BBC political editor has still to be decided.

Jonathan Munro, interim director of BBC News, said: “Laura’s the perfect host for our flagship weekend politics show – she’s an engaging presenter and a razor-sharp political interviewer, and she knows exactly which questions audiences want answered.”

The Times newspaper speculated that that Kuenssberg could expect a £76,000 pay rise to bring her in line with Marr, who was paid £340,000 a year before his move to LBC.
