Laughing woman feared she'd be left bald as lost wax strip turned up on her head

A woman feared she'd be left with a giant bald patch after discovering a 'lost' wax strip glued to her fringe - leaving her hair looking like the iconic scene from There's Something About Mary. Emily Wright was left baffled when one of her strips disappeared from the edge of the bathroom sink while shaving her legs.

However when the confused 26-year-old touched her head half an hour later her 'mystery was solved' as she discovered the strip was clung from the top of her forehand back onto her hair. Footage shows Emily in fits of laughter as she describes her unusual mishap as 'living a TikTok nightmare' and explains she's scared to remove the strip.

Giggling sister Louise Wright, 16, tells her 'you're going to have a bald patch' before she carefully and painfully peels it off her ponytailed blonde locks. Red-faced professional DJ Emily's wax-covered fringe can be seen stuck up as she questions how her predicament happened.

The wax took 20 minutes of shampoo then conditioning out of her hair, leaving her with a 'thinner' fringe. Emily has since revealed the strip may have got stuck to her hair when she bent down close enough to the sink for her head to brush past it. The DJ has since explained how relieved she is that the wax didn't pull a clump out of her hair as she'd have to perform wearing a cap to hide her bald patch.

Emily's video has been viewed more than 500,000 times by amused TikTok users, making it her music-themed profile's most viral clip to date. The DJ says some have compared her spiky fringe to a scene in the 1998 movie There's Something About Mary where Cameron Diaz's character mistook something for hair gel.

Emily said: "I thought I was going mad when I was looking for it. Because it's so light, I didn't feel it. I didn't look in the mirror or anything. I thought maybe I'd used it without thinking, so I carried on. I had one leg done and one leg not done.

"I was sitting on my bed and touched my head and felt this thing. I released what had happened and had to get my phone out to show my reaction. I just thought 'how on earth did it get there', then I was hoping it wouldn't rip my hair out. I could have ended up with a big bald patch. I've got a fringe and thought it was even shorter if I lost my hair.

"I would have ended up with a botched haircut for my DJ work and I wouldn't have wanted that. I would have had to wear a hat or something. I ran into my sister's room with it still on my head and I could hardly tell her the story because it was so funny. At least my mystery was solved.

"Although it didn't take my hair out, it left a lot of wax in my hair that took ages to scrub out. I washed it with shampoo and it didn't work. Then we Googled it and scrubbed it with conditioner. Trying to get it out pulled out more hair than the wax strip did.

"My hair's fine, but just a bit thinner. I'm grateful it didn't go too far because It could have been worse. At least it was nice and smooth the next day at least, because of all the conditioner that was in it.

"As a DJ you spend so long to get content to stick and then low and behold it's something accidental and ridiculous that takes off. It's my most viral video, which is weird but funny."

The performer joked she'll be more careful to keep track of her wax strips in future and will avoid bending too close to the sink. Her TikTok, captioned 'I can't believe this has happened', has earned more than 88,000 likes with one user describing it as 'the best thing she's seen all year'.

One user said: "Epitome of 'if I don't laugh I'll cry'."

A second said: "I'm so sorry for your suffering but this is the best thing I've seen all year."

A third added: "This was incredible from start to finish."
