Latest AT&T data breach affects 'nearly all' customers

Transcript:

CONWAY GITTENS: I’m Conway Gittens reporting from the New York Stock Exchange. Here’s what we’re watching on TheStreet today.

Wall Street is digesting the latest inflation report after the producer price index showed wholesale prices rose 0.2 percent in June, slightly higher than analysts had expected, and above the decline seen in May. This hotter than expected report comes after cool inflation data showed a decline in consumer prices on Thursday.

In other news - AT&T suffered a massive data breach in which nearly all of its customers had information stolen. Nearly every telephone number associated with AT&T between May and November of 2022 was leaked, as well as numbers from customers whose wireless providers use AT&T’s network.

In addition to customer phone numbers, any numbers a customer called or texted in that timeframe, no matter the wireless provider, were also leaked.

More Videos:

AT&T had roughly 110 million wireless subscribers at the end of 2022.

The telecom giant released a statement saying, “At this time, we do not believe that the data is publicly available. We sincerely regret this incident occurred and remain committed to protecting the information in our care.”

AT&T says that despite customer numbers being leaked, no other personal information like social security numbers or birthdays were compromised. The company says it will notify all current and former customers whose information was involved in the breach.

That’ll do it for your daily briefing. From the New York Stock Exchange, I’m Conway Gittens with TheStreet.
