The last ever picture taken of the great Australian cricketer Shane Warne has been revealed.
On Friday, the iconic leg-spinner was found dead in his villa in Koh Samui having suffered a suspected heart attack.
The harrowing news reverberated around the world, with the 52-year-old's death having prompted a flood of emotional tributes from former teammates, opponents, pundits, and fans.
Warne had been enjoying a luxury Thai holiday with friends, and with his body having been the subject of an autopsy, he will now be flown back to Australia where his family have accepted the offer of a state funeral.
Royal Thai Police chief General Surachate Hakparn confirmed on Monday there was 'no foul play', and 'no sign of fighting or theft' in the cricketer's luxury hotel room - with pathologists concluding he died of natural causes.
'The lawyer and embassy are coordinating to take the body back to Australia,' he added.
Tom Hall, a Sporting News chief executive who befriended the cricketer at a charity poker tournament 15 years ago, has now shared the final picture taken of his close friend, just hours before he died on Friday.
And as ever, Warne appeared to be on fine form, sporting a wide grin and healthy tan as he posed for the photo.
Hall had already written in Sporting News about the last meal he shared with Warne, and the story is in-keeping with the Australian's reputation for not needing exquisite food.
"I have dined with Shane in many fine establishments, but rather than sample some of the local Thai fare, we tuck into a plate of Vegemite on toast," he wrote.
"Shane chomping away: 'Geez, you can't beat Vegemite with some butter, always great wherever you are in the world.'
"An Australian through and through - this was to turn out to be his last meal."
Warne then went upstairs to speak to his children on the phone. It was the last time Hall saw him alive.
On Monday, police also confirmed they were dropping an investigation into an apparent security breach, which saw a woman enter the ambulance carrying Warne's body in an attempt to pay her respects. The vehicle was stationary on a ferry waiting to leave Koh Samui at the time.
Lieutenant General Surachate said “We have to accept that it was [a mistake] for police to miss her and we investigated,” he said.
“We found that she did not mean harm. She just wanted to pay her last respects.”
