Aussie TV host Larry Emdur has responded to critics of his April Fools’ Day prank about Meghan Markle, saying he “couldn’t give a flat flying stuff” about the backlash.
The hullabaloo went down on April 1, when Emdur ‘revealed’ on his Instagram page that he’d secured an interview with the Duchess of Sussex on The Morning Show, which he co-hosts with Kylie Gillies, ahead of her and Prince Harry’s imminent Aussie visit.

“This is beyond massive,” Emdur wrote alongside a supposed news bulletin featuring Markle. “[She] has agreed to one single interview and it is with us.”
Emdur went on to claim that Markle had a lengthy “list of ‘don’t ask’ questions” for the interview, and said he’d turned off comments on the post because he was “not interested in those nasty threads that can sometimes follow Meghan”.

It wasn’t long before Emdur’s post blew up, to the point where some British media outlets actually reached out to Markle’s reps to confirm the news. It all culminated in Emdur’s big reveal on Wednesday that the post was, in fact, a prank.
Debunking his own message, the Logie-winner clarified on IG that “this was an April Fools joke” before hitting back at critics of the joke “from around the world”.
“I’m still getting trolled and angry messages from around the world, which of course I couldn’t give a fat flying stuff about. I posted it on April 1st and it was sent around the world and landed in various feeds days later so it somehow lost its April Fools sting which I think is bloody hysterical,” Emdur wrote.
The TV personality said the global drama that ensued as a result of the post “constitutes a hugely successful April Fools gag in my book” and said anyone “angry” about the joke should “just unfollow me [because] I don’t do angry”.

Emdur elaborated on his thoughts in a statement to PEDESTRIAN.TV, describing the fiasco as “very silly”.
“I laughed at every single serious comment . I didn’t expect the attention, but in a world of cynics and easy-to-generate fakes I actually think it was pretty cool to be able to confound people globally,” Emdur said.
“I mean isn’t that the whole point of April Fools’? So by that measure alone it was a pretty good one, I reckon,” he added.
Though he claimed to have landed Markle’s only interview, we don’t yet know whether the Duchess will speak to any media outlets when she lands in Australia later this month.
We do know that she’s appearing in Sydney at an event for Her Best Life, the podcast co-founded by Gemma O’Neil and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

We also know her trip has stirred controversy, since over 30,000 Aussies signed a petition calling for the visit to be self-funded.
Reps confirmed the Duke and Duchess will foot the bill for the visit themselves, so between that and this Emdur joke, I imagine the pair’s team is wondering what the hell is in the water in Australia.
