A Lanarkshire woman has been spreading jubilee cheer by helping organise events to mark the historic occasion.
Asda Toryglen community champion, Elizabeth Arbuckle, worked with a local primary school and other organisations to sort celebrations for the platinum jubilee, after the Asda Foundation donated £1600 for them to celebrate.
Elizabeth has worked with Glasgow’s Golden Generation, People’s Past People’s Future and Cathkin Primary School to help plan several parties in honour of the Queen.
Grants of £500 were issued to Glasgow’s Golden Generation and People’s Past People’s Future, with £600 donated to Cathkin Primary School.
The £500 donation allowed Glasgow’s Golden Generation to host a tea dance at the David Cargill Centre, for over 100 patrons from three different elderly groups.
The group was greeted by alpacas and treated to soup and sandwiches, cake, and entertainment.
People’s Past People’s Future used their donation of £500 to host a party at the Reuther Hall.
Their tea dance was supported by the local girl guide group who were on hand to help with the catering.
Cathkin Primary hosted a street party for their pupils and their families with all involved enjoying a lovely afternoon out.
Elizabeth told Lanarkshire Live: “Memories were made this week- what a treat it was to help our community to host such special events. It was great to see our elderly community back together and enjoying the festivities – I am so thrilled to be a part of their celebrations.”
Geraldine Baird of People’s Past People’s Future added: “We are so grateful to the Asda Foundation and especially Liz for all the support which helped to make the celebrations possible.”
“It was a fabulous event, everyone entered into the spirit of the ‘do’ with lots of eating, singing, dancing, meeting old friends and making new ones. A once in a lifetime event for a once in a lifetime occasion.”
