Hamilton and District Men’s Shed were on the receiving end of a cash boost recently.
Asda Hamilton Community Champion, Gillian Summers, was delighted to present the group with a £910.
The donation was awarded by the Asda Foundation as an Empowering Local Communities Grant.
Established seven years ago, Hamilton and Districts Men’s Shed is part of the Scottish Men’s Shed Association.
The members, who are mainly retired, meet twice weekly and work on various woodcraft or electronic projects, although they are welcome to join just for a chat over a cup of tea as well, as the group was formed to combat social isolation amongst the older generation of men.
The Asda Foundation grant will enable the shed to purchase some much needed supplies to restore one of the buildings, which they use as premises at Hamilton Academical Football Club.
Norrie Mason, Secretary of Hamilton and District Men’s Shed told Lanarkshire Live : "We are delighted to receive this cheque from the Asda Foundation. Gillian has been a wonderful help to our group, and we just want to say a big thank you to her and The Asda Foundation for all their support.”
“We are planning to restore a building and this money will enable us to buy the materials we need to do this – thank you again!”
Asda Community Champion Gillian Summers first started working with the group at the end of 2021 and has previously donated refreshments and treats for the members to enjoy.
Gillian said:“I was very happy to be able to help get funding for Hamilton and District Men’s Shed. They are a fantastic organisation for their members, plus they help the community with repairs, in particular the local nursery.
“I have great admiration for the camaraderie and support they offer each other particularly in recent times, when we are coming out of lockdown and returning to a more normal way of life.”
