A man accused of being sexually and violently abusive to a woman for more than a year allegedly injected her with weight-loss medication.
Robert Kirkwood is said to have committed the crime between April 2019 and September 2020 at addresses in Uddingston and Bothwell.
The charge includes claims that the 36-year-old controlled what the woman was eating, monitored her weight and "did inject her with appetite suppressants".
The indictment further alleges Kirkwood punched, choked, kicked and slapped her, as well as putting a knife against her cheek.
He is also said to have been violent if the woman did not dress in "a sexual manner".
The charge also states Kirkwood - who allegedly cut and kicked a dog - caused the woman to take part in sexual activity without her "free agreement".
Prosecutors claim this was all to the woman's injury and danger of her life.
Kirkwood faces separate charges of assaulting the same alleged victim, threatening behaviour towards her as well as claims he caused another woman to fall against a glass door.
The case called at the High Court in Glasgow, where lawyers for Kirkwood denied the allegations on his behalf.
Lady Stacey fixed a trial due to begin on August 15 in Lanark.
