South Lanarkshire Council is looking for local families who can offer care to young asylum seekers.
The local authority is asking families who are up for offering supported care to people aged between 16 to 18 who have travelled to the UK from countries such as Iraq, Sudan and Syria and need a welcoming, safe and secure place to stay.
Supported carers receive regular supervision and training, and they are also paid a weekly allowance. There is no requirement for them to give up their main employment to care for a young person.
The young people in care will have their own dedicated social worker to provide ongoing emotional support.
The supported care service also provides help to young people leaving care and transitioning into independent living. It is part of the council’s Family Connections service which includes adoption, fostering and short breaks.
