Lanarkshire brute who terrorised several women in violent attacks is now behind bars

A brute who terrorised several women with violent attacks in various locations across Lanarkshire has been caged for four-and-a-half years.

Lanarkshire Live revealed the appalling crimes of Martin Reilly last month, when he pleaded guilty to a string of charges at Lanark Sheriff Court involving three women over an eight-year period in locations including Wishaw, Carluke, Lanark, M&D’s theme park and Carstairs.

At Airdrie Sheriff Court on Wednesday, Reilly, of Moss Road, Carstairs, was sentenced to 54 months in prison. Three victims also had non-harassment orders against Reilly put in place.

One victim claimed Reilly was seen smirking as handcuffs were placed on him during his court appearance.

At a previous hearing, Reilly admitted assaulting a woman on various occasions between September 2018 and March 2019 in Wishaw and Carluke; attacking a woman between 2009 and 2011 at homes in Lanark and Carstairs as well as at M&D’s at Strathclyde Park and Hamilton train station. The brute also pled guilty to several incidents between 2011 and 2014 involving a third woman.

The court heard Reilly repeatedly seized one victim by the hair, repeatedly punched and kicked her on the head and body and repeatedly seized her by the throat restricting her breathing.

He also repeatedly seized the second victim by the head, pulled an earring from her ear, repeatedly struck her on the head, seized her by the throat, knocked her to the ground, struck her head against the ground and pushed her on the body.

The abuser also repeatedly punched and kicked a third woman on the head and body, seizing her by the throat, pushing her on the body and striking her head against a wall.

Between February and June 2019, Reilly also pleaded guilty to gaining access to and sharing private info from the email account of one of his victims and creating false messages and images.

Lanarkshire Live has now seen evidence that, since Reilly’s crimes were made public, victims have had messages from other people who claim to have suffered at his hands.

One said: “When something like this happens, you feel that you can’t trust anyone. He manipulates everyone.

“His sentence was more than I expected. I had a horrible feeling he would only get a tag and still be free, so when we found out he’d be in jail for a long time it was a big shock.”
