Nine Lanark Amateur Swimming Club swimmers were crowned champions, with more than 180 new or personal best times set during the club’s championships.
Held over two nights at Lanark’s South Lanarkshire Lifestyles centre, 57 swimmers took part in total.
Champions in their respective age groups were: 8 and under: Olivia Taylor; 9/10: Emily Taylor, Ethan McQuigg; 11/12: Orlaith Jeffrey, Blair Beverley; 13/14: Evi Mackie, Craig Shaw;15 and over: Millie McArthur, Cameron Bruce.
The most closely-contested age group was the senior boys’ category, where in the final race Cameron Bruce edged out Benji Jones in the last five of the 200m individual medley to lift the trophy.
Seven new club championship records were set.
Emily Taylor in the 9/10 years group broke Evi Mackie’s 2019 records in the 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle.
Mackie, in the 13/14 group, claimed five records from as many swims – 100m butterfly (Victoria Gourlay, 2006), 100m backstroke (Millie McArthur, 2019), 100m breaststroke (Katie McIntyre, 2013) and 100m freestyle and 200m IM (Robyn Patrick, 2012).
Coach Karen Kelly said: “Well done to the swimmers, especially those children swimming in a competition for the first time, some only being in the club for a few weeks.
“Lanark ASC is a fully competitive club and swimming in our in-house galas is vital to the development of the swimmers.
“This year we changed the format of the championships so children, regardless of age, were racing against swimmers of a similar standard.
“The more experienced swimmers posted some excellent times and the challenge for them is to replicate these swims in meets outwith the home pool environment.
“It’s always good to see records broken, and Evi and Emily broke records of some of the finest female swimmers in the club’s history.”
