Amaury Bonduel, Milos Pavlovic and Andy Lee wrapped up the battles for pole position for the PRO and PRO/AM classes of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, the drivers of which will thrash it out for the titles in the World Finals that will be held today and tomorrow on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit.
On the track named after Angel Nieto, the best drivers from the Asia, North America and Europe series put on quite a show to take the top slots in the two 20-minute sessions that were held in glorious sunshine.
Q1
Everything went smoothly in the first session, with European Champion Bonduel immediately launching his attack, stamping a benchmark time of 1m43.732s to take the top position among the PROs.
Hampus Eriksson (Target Racing) finished 0.224s down on the BDR-Grupo Prom driver, while Danny Formal (WTR Andretti) was in third by 0.382s, just ahead of Loris Cabirou (Ansa Motorsport).
Giorgio Amati did well to get into the Top 5 at the wheel of the Iron Lynx ST with a half-second gap from the leader, Lee finished sixth to give the Flying Lizard team the lead in the PRO/AM Class, where Andrea Frassineti (VSR) was second - starting eighth on the grid - and Frederik Schandorff of Target Racing third (eleventh overall).
Among the PROs, Georgi Dimitrov (Iron Lynx) was seventh, with Egor Orudzhev (ART-Line) and Largim Ali (Target) completing the overall Top 10.
Much further back were the other PRO/AMs, as Luke Berkeley (Alliance Racing) will start 23rd, Joran Leneutre (Iron Lynx) 25th and Guido Luchetti 29th, after Lamborghini Stüttgart by Target Racing reached an agreement with Oregon to borrow a car, as the one entered was badly damaged in the incident in Race 2 on Friday.
Q2
Bonduel spent half the time waiting in the pits before entering the track and setting a decisive lap time in 1m44.535s, overtaking Eriksson by 0.175s, who was still on the front row and ahead of teammate Oliver Söderström.
The first seven in the overall are all PRO, with Giano Taurino (TR3 Racing) and Orudzhev in the Top 5, albeit 0.8s behind, followed by Bryson Morris (Ansa Motorsport) and Miki Koyama (SJM Iron Lynx Theodore Racing), over a second behind the leader.
Instead, Milos Pavlovic will start from the pole position for the PRO/AM Class, with the ASR driver finishing eighth overall, keeping behind him PRO Ryan Norman (WTR Andretti) and his direct category rivals, John Dubets (PPM) and Brendon Leitch (Leipert Motorsport).
Marco Miller (Flying Lizard) will start 13th, behind PRO Paul Levet (Oregon Team), while the other PRO/AMs are much further back, so much so that Nicholas Persing (WTR Andretti) is even down in 20th and Pietro Perolini (Oregon) 24th.
Race 1 of the PRO+PRO-AM final is scheduled for 16:15.
