Kylian Mbappe breaks his silence to contradict PSG over explosive transfer demand claims

Kylian Mbappe has contradicted claims from Paris Saint-Germain over his future as the club will attempt to sell the striker rather than risk losing him as a free agent next year.

Mbappe will not sign the one-year contract extension in his PSG contract meaning that his deal will expire in 12 months. Mirror Football understands that the French club’s priority is to ensure he does not leave without a transfer fee, meaning they are prepared to cash in on the superstar this summer.

Sources close to PSG have indicated that the club have been in contact extension talks with the superstar striker. The club also claimed that they were not aware of the player’s decision to not trigger a further year in his contract, which is currently set to expire in 2024.

A statement has now been released on behalf of Mbappe which claims that he had already indicated to the club a year ago his intention not to stay at the Parc des Princes beyond the end of the 2023-24 campaign while adding that no contract talks had been initiated.

"The management of the club in charge of his extension, which was signed a year ago, was informed as of July 15, 2022 of the player’s decision (not to go beyond 2024) and the letter had the sole objective to confirm what had already been clarified verbally beforehand," a statement on behalf of the player said.

"Kylian Mbappe and his entourage say they have never discussed this point again with the club during the year, except 15 days ago to announce the sending of the letter. Furthermore, no possible new extension has been discussed."

The statement added: "After having already publicly affirmed in recent weeks that he will be a Parisian next season, Kylian Mbappe has not asked for his departure this summer but has just confirmed to the club the non-activation of his additional year."

Mbappe and his family "regret that the receipt of this letter was broadcast to the media and that these exchanges are made public for the sole purpose of damaging their image and the smooth running of discussions with the club."

This weekend, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez responded to a question on a future move for Mbappe: “Yes. But not this year.” That proclamation came just days ahead of Mbappe detailing his future plans and could hasten a potential transfer to this summer, due to Madrid’s needs and the intention of PSG to cash in.
