KSI brutally mocked Lionel Messi with a brutal tweet as Argentina suffered a shock World Cup defeat against Saudi Arabia.
It proved to be a mixed afternoon for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who struck his first goal at the competition, but then saw his side throw away the lead to lose in dramatic circumstances. Argentina were awarded with a chance to take the lead from the penalty spot after Leandro Paredes was hurled down.
Messi stepped up and duly obliged as he slotted the ball into the bottom corner, sending the Saudi goalkeeper the wrong way in the process. The White and Blue dominated the rest of the first-half and had three goals ruled out for offside, with Messi denied once while Lautaro Martinez had two chalked off.
However, the Saudis came out firing at the start of the second period and equalised through a neat finish from Salah Al-Shehri. Moments later, Salem Al-Dawsari gave the Green Falcons a shock lead as he curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box. Argentina pushed to get back into the game but they couldn't break down a resolute Saudi side at the Lusail Stadium.
After Saudi Arabia scored their second goal, YouTube sensation KSI took a pop at the Argentine superstar by posting a ruthless tweet which included a rather embarrassing photo of Messi with the caption "Messi rn". This is poised to be Messi's last World Cup with the 35-year-old entering the latter stages of his professional career.
KSI's message drew over 14,000 retweets and 130,000 likes within the first three hours, while there was a bucket load of comments reacting to the post. Some fans decided to condemn KSI, while others were hysterical.
One commented: "Nahhh that is brutal." While another tweeted: "This is not fair." A third added: "Respect the goat boyy." A fourth said: "I know nothing about Football but how funny is this post."
It was a quiet performance from Messi, but Graeme Souness decided to focus purely on Argentina's display as a whole and the former Liverpool player and manager slammed their performance. He was "gobsmacked" about how disappointing the White and Blue were.
Souness told ITV : "I am gobsmacked, I have never witnessed an Argentinian team not be up for the cup, in terms of a physical encounter. They were wishy-washy today, the referee was obviously going to be lenient, Saudi Arabia were super aggressive, the referee let it go.
"At that point, Argentina have to say: 'We have to match this otherwise we’ll be in trouble.' That’s exactly what happened, I thought Argentina had another gear, they don’t have another gear.
"Unless they find a yard of aggression from somewhere, they can be rolled over. Really good news for England, if they have to meet them in the competition."
