Kolkata's maximum temperature may hover around 37 degree Celsius till Saturday

KOLKATA: With the scorching westerly winds continuing to blow into south Bengal and Kolkata, the maximum temperature in the city crawled up marginally to 37.3°C on Thursday.

It will continue to hover around 37°C till April 30, said the Met office. An incursion of moisture with easterly winds is expected to pull the mercury down from May 1 and lead to a thunderstorm in Kolkata between May 2 and 4.

“The flow of moisture is expected to rise from May 1. It is expected to bring the maximum temperature down to 35°C-36°C. A system could then form over Jharkhand. It is expected to draw moisture and trigger rain and thunderstorm in Kolkata,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) director G K Das.

Meanwhile, a heat-wave continued to prevail across Bankura, Purulia, West Burdwan and Jhargram on Thursday. While Asansol recorded 42.6°C, Purulia recorded 44.3°C. The heat-wave could end in these districts on May 1.
