Kolkata: Ratha Yatra with a difference brings communities closer

KOLKATA: Sex workers, tran-sgenders, street kids, and other marginalised sections, joined representatives of religious communities for a Ratha Yatra from Sonagachhi to Nandan to raise awareness on religious harmony, social responsibility, brotherhood.

"Purohits, transgenders and sex workers pulled the same rope," said event coordinator Krishnendu Chatterjee. The idol-less rath represented various beliefs. Abhijit Das, a member of LGBTQ+ community, said it was a demonstration of cross-sectional brotherhood.
