West Bengal government nod to reopen all schools from Monday

KOLKATA: All schools in the state will reopen from Monday. The state school education department issued notices to all district magistrates on Friday, urging them to take necessary measures to ensure the smooth reopening of schools following a long summer break.

“The CM has given her nod to reopen schools. We have spoken to the health and family welfare department on the Covid issue and they assured us there is nothing to worry yet. In future, we will take decisions according to how the situation pans out,” state education minister Bratya Basu said during a programme at the Jorasanko Thakurbari.

In the notice issued by school education department principal secretary Manish Jain, schools have been instructed to clean the premises on a priority basis before the June 27 reopening. All teachers and staff have been asked to attend school from Saturday. Residential schools have been asked to open hostels maintaining Covid norms from Monday.

The summer holidays that is usually for a month got extended to nearly two months following the closure a fortnight earlier than scheduled. The decision to extend the holidays till July 26 was taken by the CM a couple of weeks earlier when some of the schools were scheduled to reopen. Most private schools have already opened to make up for the lost time.
