‘Kolkata comprises efforts of its vibrant working population’

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress and every other major political party of Bengal (except BJP) responded critically to the governor’s statement. “I wish to thank the governor for spending his retired life peacefully in Bengal,” city mayor Firhad Hakim said, referring to Dhankhar’s stint as Union junior minister in 1990s.

“But, unlike him, not all of us staying here are retired. We were born here, we live here, we work here and we may die in Kolkata. No one has the right to insult our Kolkata,” he said.

“He did not open his mouth when the nation was singed over Nupur Sharma’s remarks and so many trains were burned in other states, he does not speak when democracy is throttled in Tripura and he will also remain blind to the shameless horse-trading now going on in Maharashtra. He cannot see, hear or talk evil about any place except Bengal or Kolkata,” Hakim said.
