Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Saturday said that both the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) governments at the Centre were responsible for the rise in fuel prices in the country. Inaugurating the protest here, called by the CPI(M) Central Committee against the policies of the Central Government, Mr. Balakrishnan alleged that the BJP government was raising prices for oil companies and a share of this went to the party. India was the only country in the world where fuel prices were rising daily, he said. Accusing the BJP of plundering the country, he said that they were now eyeing to make the State government pauper. “After hiking the tax, the Central government is expecting the State governments to reduce it. This is a strategy to bankrupt the State governments and centralise all the power,” he said. Mr. Balakrishnan accused the Congress of remaining silent despite the prices of fuel, goods and services that have skyrocketed and affected the common people. The Congress was only thinking of overthrowing the LDF in the State. For this, they were working as a B team of the BJP and dancing to its tunes, he said.
