A new statue honoring the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna 'Gigi' Bryant is set to be unveiled in a private ceremony outside of Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. This statue is part of a series of monuments dedicated to the Los Angeles Lakers legend, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash in January 2020.
The upcoming statue, which will be the second in the series, follows the unveiling of a 19-foot bronze memorial commemorating Bryant's historic 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors. The ceremony for the new statue is scheduled for Friday, a date chosen for its numerological significance related to Bryant's jersey numbers - 8, 24, and Gigi's number 2.
The statue of Kobe and Gigi Bryant will be situated near the Los Angeles Kings' monument honoring the team's 50th anniversary. Following the private unveiling, the statue will be open to the public for viewing starting Saturday morning.
Vanessa Bryant, Kobe's widow, previously announced that a third statue depicting Bryant in his iconic No. 24 Lakers uniform is also in the works. This final statue is expected to be revealed during the upcoming NBA season.
