Kirkgunzeon Gala raises the woof thanks to dog show

Kirkgunzeon Gala raised the woof on Saturday with a dog show and an impressive array of vintage machinery among the attractions.

And there was plenty for two-legged visitors to do with a range of produce and craft stalls in the field beside the Maxwell Memorial Hall.

A tombola, raffle, teas and coffees, a licenced bar and a barbecue were well supported with all takings from the show going to local good causes.

Proceeds from all doggie-related events were split between Alfie’s Dream for Greyhounds at Lockerbie and the South West Scotland Wildlife Hospital at the Barony at Parkgate.

Event organiser Emma Maxwell of Kirkgunzeon Canines was delighted with the day which raised £350 each for the animal charities and around £1,000 for the Maxwell Memorial Hall hall restoration fund.

Emma told the News: “Everything went really well. We had over 100 cars on the field.

“All money made from teas and coffees, the tombola, bar and the barbecue went to the hall fund while donations from the dog show, dog agility and dog scurry went to our chosen animal charities.

“All the stallholders paid £10 to us and that money was split between the charities and the hall.

“It was a brilliant day and we will be back even bigger and better next year.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us on the day.”

The event, which was partly staged inside the hall, ran from 10am to
4pm. It was supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council and Kirkgunzeon Canines.
