Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon to return in 2022

The Kirkcudbright Academy Half Marathon will make its long awaited return this year.

The event was lasted held in 2019, with the coronavirus pandemic seeing it called off in 2020 and 2021.

But now Kirkcudbright Academy Parent Council has revealed it will go ahead on Saturday, May 28.

The half marathon was started in 1983 by academy teacher, the late Harry Marland, and the only previous cancellation was during the foot and mouth crisis.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 mitigation measures, it has been decided just to hold the half marathon, the walk and the 10km race with no fun run this year.

The routes remains the same as in 2019, starting at the academy and taking in the scenic sights around Kirkcudbright and St Mary’s Isle before heading out of town along the Beeches’road to Twynholm, proceeding south to Kirkcudbright Bay and back to the finishing line at school.

All races will start from the academy field with the walkers setting off at 9am and the runners at 11am.

Entries are online only, with no on-the-day entries, and can be made at www.entrycentral.com/kahm.

Full details of the race, along with route maps, can be found at www.kahm.org.uk. For enquires, email kahminfo@gmail.com

The parent council is continuing to raise sponsorship and would like to acknowledge the generous financial contributions held over from 2020 from Stewartry Sports Council, Carson and Trotter, GS Construction and The Galloway News.

Anyone who would like to contribute financially to the event or who would like to help with marshalling and on the day can contact race co-ordinator Richard Nash at richard.m.nash@btinternet.com or parent council chair and event co-ordinator Liz Kettle at lizziekettle@hotmail.com.
