Kirby Smart calls out Georgia fans after the Auburn game

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart has called out Georgia football fans following the Auburn game. It is hard to blame Smart for calling out Georgia fans.

Many Georgia fans, especially the students, left the Auburn game early despite it still being a two possession game. It feels like some Georgia fans are getting spoiled. UGA fans have been leaving games early for years. Yes, many of these games have been blowouts, but that was not the case against Auburn.

“I’m probably disappointed in our fans for the first time,” said Smart following Georgia’s 31-13 win over Auburn. “I thought there was a lack of really affecting the game crowd noise-wise, passion and energy.”

Statistically, Auburn was not impressive on third downs, which fans typically impact the most. Auburn went just four of 13 on third down.

“Hey, it was hot,” continued Smart. “But our players got full pads on, helmets, pads, and it’s hot out there. They’re pushing, trying to have a home field advantage like we’ve had when we’ve played against teams and I can’t get crowd noise. That’s frustrating for me.”

According to ESPN, Georgia had around a 99% chance to win in the fourth quarter after going up 28-10 over Auburn. However, Georgia fans know from the Bulldogs’ game against Alabama that SEC teams are capable of overcoming significant deficits.

Fans leaving early is also not a good look for recruits, who notice how loud each stadium they attend is.  Georgia fans will get another chance to prove their loyalty on Oct. 12 against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
