King Charles III celebrates first birthday as monarch

The King is set to celebrate his first birthday today as monarch as he turns 74.

It is believed Charles will celebrate the occasion privately. He ascended the throne earlier this year following the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II on September 8.

On the day before his birthday, the King led the nation in honouring the memory of its war dead in the annual Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph. He left a floral tribute in Whitehall which featured the words "In memory of the glorious dead. Charles R".

As part of the King's birthday today, the Band of the Household Cavalry will perform 'Happy Birthday' during the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Furthermore, gun salutes will be fired across the capital in his honour for the first time.
