Kim Kardashian is now legally a single woman following a court hearing in Lost Angeles.
In a virtual court hearing Wednesday, the star officially dropped “West” from her surname. Kanye West, now legally known as Ye, was not present at the hearing.
Los Angeles County Superior Court granted Ms Kardashian’s request for a name change and to be declared legally single, but details of child custody and property are yet to be worked out.
This process, called a bifurcation, is common in complex divorces.
In court filings, statements the 41-year-old television personality had said she "very much" desired the termination of her marriage.
"I believe that the court terminating our marital status will help Kanye to accept that our marital relationship is over," she wrote in a statement last month.
Ye, 44, had previously declared that he wanted to stay married to Kardashian.
His lawyers had pushed for the businesswoman to waive any future spousal privilege protecting her communications with their children.
“This is unprecedented,” said lawyers for Kardashian in court filings.
The request was rejected by the judge.
The couple have four children together, North, eight, Saint, six, Chicago, four, and Psalm, two.
The next hearing in the case is set for August 5.
Ye is one of the best-known names in rap music. Hit hits include Stronger, Jesus Walks and Gold Digger.
Kardashian first found fame in 2007 as the star of the reality TV show about her family, Keeping Up With The Kardashians. She has since launched fashion and beauty brands.
The couple were married for seven years.
