Kerr McInroy hopes his patience will pay off with a long run in the Kilmarnock team.
The midfielder signed in the summer after a year at rivals Ayr United last season, but game time hasn’t been as regular as he’d like.
He’s now came back into the fold, and he’s hoping to keep that up now and after the World Cup.
Speaking exclusively to the Kilmarnock Standard he said: “I was out the team for quite a few weeks so I’m delighted to get my opportunity again.
“I think I’m playing okay, once you get your chance you need to prove you’re worthy of playing.
“I want to build on that and hopefully get a run in the team to really show what I can do.
“It was really frustrating not playing, sometimes it can be hard to keep going, but you just need to wait for that opportunity and take it when it comes.
McInroy admits it’s a different dynamic for him this season after being one of the first names on Ayr’s team sheet last season.
But he reckons it helps drive him on to succeed, no matter what position he plays.
He said: “Last season I kind of knew I’d be playing every week, but it’s different now as there’s a lot of competition.
“You know that if you’re not on it one week that you’ll maybe be benched the next week, so that’s good in terms of keeping you on your toes.
“It’s a different dynamic for me fighting for a place, so hopefully I can keep it going.
“I thrive on that competition for places, I think every player would to be honest.
“You don’t want to get too comfortable when you’re training, you want to stay at it 100 per cent.”
He added: “I’ve played in few different positions here, it’s not something I’ve really done in the past but the manager told me if you’re a good player then you can play anywhere.
“I’ll play anywhere he wants me to, obviously I’m primarily a midfielder, but if we wants me to fill in at the likes of wing back I’m happy to do that.”
