Highland event calls for everyone with links to one Scottish surname to take part

KILLIN Highland Games is calling all people with the surname Macnab or with a Macnab connection for a special celebration.

This year’s Killin Highland Games will be a focal point in the special Clan Macnab homecoming gathering.

Up until August 3, there will be Macnab focused-history tours on Monday and Tuesday in the village as well as dinner and a ceilidh in the McLaren Hall.

These are ticketed events and must be pre-purchased through the Clan Macnab website HERE.

Macnab followers will also be invited to participate in the Games parade, led by a local pipe band.

Clan chief Jamie Macnab said: “I grew up in Killin and it will always be home to me, even though I live in Edinburgh.

“I am excited to meet Macnabs from all over the world who are travelling back to their ancestral homeland.

“I am very grateful to the community of Killin for the warm welcome they give us.”

The Killin Games are held in the heart of the central Highlands, in Breadalbane Park.

Games chairman Charlie Grant: “The games offer heavyweight competitions, including the famous ‘tossing the caber’, highland dancing and piping competitions.

“There is a very popular amateur hill race, from the games park to the top of the nearby Sron A’ Chlachain.

“Visitors have the opportunity of shopping at food and artisan stalls. We look forward to seeing everyone and look forward to offering a special welcome to those local and far who have Macnab affiliations.”

The games will be held on August 2 with gates opening at 10am. The parade will take place from 1pm.
