Kiko Martinez shares gruesome photo of battered face after Josh Warrington fight

Kiko Martinez has shared a photo of his disfigured face following his IBF World Featherweight title fight with Josh Warrington on Saturday evening.

The Leeds Warrior claimed a seventh-round stoppage win over his Spanish opponent at the First Direct Arena in a hometown spectacular. Martinez, who now has a record of 43-10-2, was left badly hurt after the fight, and shared a message on his Instagram story alongside a picture of his battered head.

He said: "We are already home. Thank God my family will take care of me as they always do. Thank you very much everyone, I will never forget how well you have always treated me."

There were rumours that the 36-year-old would retire after the fight, and many may feel his latest comments could indicate his intentions. Martinez took a heavy beating from Warrington, who is now 30-1-1, in the grudge match.

He sustained heavy cuts to the head and both eyes, as now evidenced in his latest photo. Yorkshireman Warrington was boxing Martinez for the second time in his career after edging a victory on points in 2017.

He suffered a broken jaw during Saturday's bout and later required surgery in hospital. He shared a photo of him in bed post-surgery, thanking medical staff and vowing that the injury "wasn’t going to stop me winning."

Warrington won the IBF World Featherweight belt for the second time in his career two minutes and 12 seconds into the seventh round. It was his first win in the ring since October 2019.
