Khloe had melanoma when she was 19
As a 19 year old girl, Khloe had undergone an operation to remove melanoma which is a type of skin cancer. "I had melanoma on my back, and I had a surgery to remove that as well so I am pre-composed to melanomas."
Melanoma is a very serious type of cancer which develops in the melanocytes cells, the ones which give the skin its color. "The risk of melanoma seems to be increasing in people under 40, especially women," a report from the MayoClinic says.
Every year 16,700 people are diagnosed with it.
Melanoma occurs in the eyes, nose and throat as well.
What are the symptoms of melanoma?
Melanomas mostly develop in those skin areas which do not get sufficient sunlight. "Melanomas can also occur in areas that don't receive much sun exposure, such as the soles of your feet, palms of your hands and fingernail beds. These hidden melanomas are more common in people with darker skin," MayoClinic says.
The common symptom of melanoma is change in an existing mole and the development of a new pigment or unusual growth on the skin.
Khloe has a message for all
With sharing details of the surgery, Khloe Kardashian has urged people to check all the time.
"I am someone who wears sunscreen every single day, religiously so no one is exempt from these things. Please take this seriously and do regular self-exams as well as your annual check-ups," she sends out a message for all.
