A Russian air strike on a supermarket in Kherson has killed at least eight people, officials have said.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a further 13 people were killed and 48 wounded following the coordinated strike on the southern Ukrainian city and surrounding areas on Wednesday.
“The world needs to see and know this. A railway station and a crossing, a house, a hardware store, a grocery supermarket, a gas station - do you know what unites these places?
“The bloody trail that Russia leaves with its shells, killing civilians in Kherson and Kherson region,” Mr Zelensky said as he posted images of the attack.
Ukrainian troops regained control of Kherson last November where Russian troops have retreated back to the Dnipro River.
Although Ukrainian troops made territorial gains earlier in the year, Moscow has stepped up air strikes in the last weeks as Kyiv prepares for a counteroffensive in which it is expected to try to retake further occupied territory in Kherson region.
Ukrainian officials also said that Russia had launched a separate attack targeting Kyiv and the coastal city of Odesa on Thursday.
Air defence systems shot down 18 of 24 Russian drones on the two cities, Ukrainian officials said.
The latest wave of attempted strikes came a day after Russia accused Ukraine of a failed attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin in a drone attack on the Kremlin.
Russia claimed that two unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin.
