A year ago today, a 22-year-old loner killed his mother after a row and then went out on the streets of Plymouth and shot dead four other innocent people.
And today, people will gather on the first anniversary of one of the UK’s worst mass shootings, to remember the victims of Jake Davison. In addition to killing his mother Maxine, 51, Davison shot dead little Sophie Martyn, aged three, her father Lee, 43, Stephen Washington, 59, and Kate Shepherd, 66.
Davison, an apprentice crane operator, then turned his pump-action shotgun on himself before armed police could reach him. Today, Plymouth will mark the anniversary with a civic ceremony at the Minster Church of St Andrew and a community vigil in North Down Crescent Park, north west of the city centre.
