US filmmaker Kevin Smith revealed that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s wedding was “picture perfect”, after attending the ceremony.
Smith, 52, was invited as a guest to the nuptials, which took place in Georgia on the weekend of August 19-21, as Ben, 50, and Lopez, 53, married on the actor’s compound on Hampton Island Preserve.
Affleck and Smith have been friends since the mid-1990s and Smith spoke of how “lucky” he felt to have witnessed the actor’s wedding, which he described as “incredibly beautiful”.
Smith, who stars in upcoming film Clerks III with Affleck, told People: “Hands down, [it was] one of the five most beautiful moments I’ve ever experienced in my life, and it had nothing to do with me.
“I was a bystander for it. I know them, and so it makes it warm and wonderful. But even if I didn’t know these two - but I just knew the story and the history - it was so incredibly beautiful.”
Wedding guests enjoyed a traditional Southern dinner on Friday, August 19, before the ceremony, which was officiated by Jay Shetty, and all wore white as they watched Affleck and Lopez say their ‘I Dos’ on the candle-decorated lawn of the grounds.
Smith spoke of the bride having “impeccable taste” as he said: "The whole wedding was picture perfect."
This is the second wedding cermoney for the couple, as Jennifer confirmed she had first married Ben on July 16, at the Little White Chapel, Las Vegas.
Affleck can next be seen in Clerks III, released on September 13, which Smith also wrote and directed.
The duo have worked on several titles together, including Jay and Silent Bob, Chasing Amy, and 2004’s Jersey Girl. Smith also co-executive produced Affleck’s breakout film Good Will Hunting in 1997.
Smith described Affleck as “the happiest I’ve ever seen him” at his wedding to Lopez, as he continued: "[Ben was] radiating f***ing joy as he looked down the aisle and saw the woman of his dreams coming toward him, and she radiated it right back.
"I was bawling when I looked up and saw the happiest Ben I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Affleck and Lopez first got engaged in 2002 before breaking up in 2004, and reunited last April.
Smith said: "These kids are in love, man. Deep, crazy love, and that wedding would make even a hardcore cynic believe in love. They earned it.
"The universe made [Ben] wait for this one and man, oh man, was it worth it."
Smith added he was happy the couple “stuck the landing".
