Kevin Federline has finally addressed why he failed to show public support for ex-wife Britney Spears last year when she made a bid to end her conservatorship.

The former backup dancer, 44, opens up in a bombshell TV interview which is due to air in Australia this weekend.

In a clip teasing the sitdown chat with 60 Minutes Australia, Federline - who shares sons 16-year-old Sean and 15-year-old Jayden with the Toxic singer - describes their relationship as “amazing — until it wasn’t”.

He claims that he didn’t get involved or support Spears in her attempts to end the conservatorship, which controlled most aspects of her life for 13-years, as he needed to focus on their sons.

He did however admit that he felt bad for her, telling the camera: “I was mortified for her. I really was.”

Adding: “I still feel bad.”

Federline and Spears enjoyed a whirlwind three-month romance before getting engaged in July 2004 and then marrying just two months later in September.

They welcomed their first son the following September with their second son born in September 2006.

Things soured between them however and they divorced in 2007.

Spears recently married for the third time when she walked down the aisle with long-term partner, Sam Asghari.

Her sons were noticably absent from the nuptials however.

Federline explained the boys’ decision not to attend their mum’s big day, telling ITV last month: “The boys have decided they are not seeing her right now.”

He claimed that this was due to them having issues with Spears posting a number of nude images on her Instagram account.

“It’s been a few months since they’ve seen her. They made the decision not to go to her wedding,” he added.

Last month, Spears launched a music comeback by dropping her first single in six years.

Hold Me Closer - a duet with Sir Elton John - raced to the top of music charts around the globe shortly after its release.
