A viral quote from Kevin Durant started making waves on Wednesday where Durant proclaimed himself as the best scorer in NBA history. There is only one issue: it’s not real.
A Twitter account called NBACentel tweeted a quote and attributed it to Durant saying, “I’m 7’ tall and have the skillset of a shooting guard. I am the best scorer in NBA history, my only weakness is injuries.” When a fan asked Durant if it was fake, he reacted with some genuine concern.
“We’re reaching dangerous territory,” Durant wrote on Twitter.
The account was masquerading as a popular NBA Twitter account called NBACentral that often aggregates NBA quotes and reports. Thanks to recent changes on the social media site, anyone can now be verified if they subscribe to Twitter Blue, leading to the parody account appearing more trustworthy.

The fake quote was attributed to Durant speaking on The Boardroom, a multimedia company he founded alongside Rich Kleiman in 2019, and it has reached over 50,000 likes, 3,000 retweets and six million views in one day’s time.
