Kevin Costner reportedly "wasn't shocked" when he found out his wife Christine Baumgartner had filed for divorce, though it allegedly still came as an "unpleasant surprise".
It was announced earlier this month that the actor, 68, and his wife Christine, 49, are now in the process of getting divorced after having been married for almost 20 years.
The former couple have been married since 2004 and they share three children together. Kevin and Christine are parents to Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 12.
Following the news, there's been speculation about the marriage, including that Kevin cheated on his wife. This has however reportedly been denied, with a spokesperson for him quoted as having said that it's "absolutely not true".
And it's been suggested that his work schedule may have contributed to the situation, with him having worked on projects like Yellowstone and Horizon in the last year.
A source has now told People that the divorce filing last week came as an "unpleasant surprise" to him, though they added to the outlet that the actor "wasn't shocked" by it.
It's been claimed that it's "not what he wanted" and the source speculated that the Academy Award winner had been aware that his wife Christine had been "unhappy".
The source said Kevin isn't around "very much" when he's filming and speculated that his absence "has been very hard" for Christine, whom he has a home with in California.
"Christine doesn't want him to throw himself into another project. He has been obsessed with filming Horizon since last year. She wasn't happy about it," the source added.
Kevin is best known for having starred in films like The Untouchables and Dances with Wolves. His other credits include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and The Bodyguard.
More recently, he has starred as patriarch John Dutton III in the drama series Yellowstone. It's recently been announced that the show will come to an end later this year.
He's set to appear in the upcoming film Horizon, which he's understood to have co-written, directed and produced. Three sequels have reportedly been planned for the film.
