Oscar winning actor Kevin Costner has started divorce proceedings with wife Christine Baumgartner, after almost 19 years of marriage.

Yesterday, the 68-year-old's representative released a statement confirming the news of the couple's split, writes The Mirror.

Publicist Arnold Robinson said: "It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage."
