The Diamondbacks picked up a much-needed win in Game 3 of the NLCS on Thursday night, courtesy of some late heroics from second baseman Ketel Marte.
With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Marte came up huge with a line drive into shallow center field, which drove in the game-winning run to give Arizona its first win in the series against the Phillies, 2-1.
Marte’s walk-off hit sent Chase Field into a frenzy, as the Diamondbacks chased him down in the outfield grass to celebrate the victory. It was his third hit of the game, as he stayed hot and delivered during a crucial moment.

Arizona was finally able to cool down Philadelphia’s scalding hot offense in Game 3, as rookie right-hander Brandon Pfaadt struck out nine across 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Phillies’ lone run came on a wild pitch from Ryan Thompson in the seventh inning. While the Diamondbacks also squandered some big scoring opportunities throughout the game, Marte was able to come up with a clutch at-bat off Craig Kimbrel in the ninth.
With the next two games slated to be played in Arizona, the DBacks will look to make their home field advantage count before the series shifts back to Philadelphia.
