KOCHI: The survivor in the actor abduction and sexual assault case has reportedly written to the Chief Justice of India seeking a probe into media reports that the visuals of the assault were allegedly leaked from a lower court. According to sources, the survivor has sent a copy of the letter to the President, Prime Minister, Kerala chief minister and Chief Justice of Kerala high court.
Referring to the reports about the alleged leak, she reportedly said in the letter that the news was shocking and a violation of her privacy.
The survivor has also referred to the statements given by film director P Balachandrakumar.
Survivor writes to CJI over leak of visuals
The actor who was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted in 2017 has reportedly written to the Chief Justice of India seeking a probe into the reports that the visuals of her attack were leaked from a lower court.
Referring to media reports about its leak, she reportedly said in the letter that the news was shocking and a violation of her privacy. The case pertains to the assault on her on Feb 17, 2017. The attackers had recorded the visuals of the assault and handed over the recording to a lawyer who later presented it in court.
According to sources, the survivor has sent a copy of the letter to the President, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court, and the chief minister of Kerala. The survivor has also referred to the statements given by director P Balachandrakumar, whose revelations led to a further investigation in the case.
Sources said the petition also referred to his statement that the visuals of the assault were watched by actor Dileep - who is accused of conspiring to commit the crime - with Pulsar Suni, the prime accused. Also, there were allegations that the visuals reached abroad and some people had accessed it.
In the first week of January, the survivor had written a detailed letter to the chief minister in the backdrop of the allegations by Balachandrakumar. She had expressed concerns about the resignation of the second special public prosecutor in the case.
In the last week of December, special public prosecutor VN Anil Kumar submitted his resignation letter. Earlier, advocate A Sureshan (who was initially the special public prosecutor in the case) had resigned in November 2020. The trial in the case is progressing in-camera at the Ernakulam Additional Special Sessions court. TNN
