THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition did not demand the resignation of Saji Cherian as MLA on the floor of the House on Thursday, though they said outside the assembly that it would be prudent for him to relinquish his post as MLA as he was sworn in based on the Constitution.
Opposition leader V D Satheesan told the media after staging a walkout that the opposition would explore legal possibilities in this regard. He said that if Cherian would not have resigned on Wednesday, he would have been forced to resign on Thursday.
He said that Cherian’s stand was that of RSS ideologue M S Golwalkar and the chief minister or the CPM leadership never have commented if the ideologies of the RSS and the CPM would meet.
Even now Cherian is of the stand that his speech was distorted by the media, and till now he has not confessed that he committed a mistake, Satheesan said.
Meanwhile, a day after his resignation from the cabinet, Cherian attended the assembly procedure as MLA. He reached the assembly at 8.45am and was seen sitting and chatting among the members of the ruling front. Though his new permanent seat isn’t clear, he was seen sitting in the second row close to the aisle dividing the treasury bench.
He told the reporters later that he was not sad about losing the ministership instead he was feeling proud.
