KOZHIKODE: Police seized 46kg of ganja, which was being smuggled into the state from Andhra Pradesh, in an ambulance near Perinthalmannna in Malappuram on Friday.
Three people have been arrested in connection with the seizure. Perinthalmanna police identified them as Usman, 26, from Chattiparamba; Haneefa, 40, from Tirurangadi; and Mohammedali, 36, from Munniyoor. Police made the seizure after intercepting the ambulance following a tip-off.
Police said the arrested told them that they resorted to transporting the contraband in the ambulance to evade police and excise checking.
Perinthalmanna DSP M Santhosh Kumar said that the accused had taken the ambulance on rent, and probes are underway whether more people were connected with the racket.
