Kentucky has confirmed 19 measles cases this year, the most the state has recorded in a single year in 35 years. Two people have been hospitalized, and every confirmed case has been in someone who was not vaccinated against measles.
Christian County in western Kentucky accounts for 10 of the cases and is the center of the outbreak. Cases have also been confirmed in Todd, Trigg, and Washington counties. The Kentucky Department for Public Health confirmed the ongoing outbreak and said additional cases and exposures are under investigation. Most of the cases have been in unvaccinated children between five and seventeen, officials said.
