For a player who won an NBA title with the Boston Celtics in 2008, former Boston big man and current NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins can be pretty tough on his former ball club. That may be because he knows how good they can be at their best, but at times in the past it’s come off as a bit antagonistic.
But consider Big Perk a convert after the Celtics’ recent successful West Coast swing that saw them blow out the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Clippers, beat the Los Angeles Lakers handily, and dropped one to the Golden State Warriors.
Speaking on a recent episode of ESPN’s Pat McAfee show via Boston Dot Com’s Conor Ryan, Perk said that Boston “proved to me and the rest of the world that they’re the best team in the NBA.”

“I’m not just basing this off what they did to the Lakers,” he added. “I’m talking about the clean sweep that they had in L.A. They beat the brakes off the Clippers and then to come in and do what they did (vs. the Lakers).”
“Look, when I look at that starting five with Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday and (Kristaps) Porzingis — that is so electrifying. And I know all the people, the naysayers, are saying they shoot too many 3s. I was one of them. But I’m a believer in their 3-point shooting, and I’m a believer in their perimeter defense.”
“This team should be favored to win it all,” finished Perk.
We might be a bit biased here at the Celtics Wire, but we’re inclined to agree; we’re just not sure what took Perk so long to get on board.
