Kellie Harrington hailed a 'national treasure' after appearance on Late Late Show

Boxing star Kellie Harrington has been hailed as a "national treasure" after her appearance on the Late Late Show on Friday night.

The Olympic gold medallist talked to Ryan Tubridy about her upbringing in Dublin's north inner city and eventually finding a calling in boxing.

Harrington has released her autobiography Kellie , written with Roddy Doyle, and she also told of already having her eyes set on the next Olympics in Paris in 2024.

But in the meantime the lightweight champion, fresh off winning gold at the European Championships, is going back to work over the Bank Holiday weekend in her part-time cleaning job at St Vincent's Psychiatric Hospital in Dublin.

Social media users were full of praise for the 32-year-old who has always been intensely proud of her roots.

One person said: "What a national treasure Kellie Harrington is. Could listen to her all night."

Another agreed: "Kellie Harrington is a national treasure. Herself and Katie Taylor are fantastic role models for the next generation."

Someone else commented: "Is there anyone more down to earth than Kellie Harrington? What a gem."
