Kell Brook tells Amir Khan he is "finished for good" after stoppage defeat

Kell Brook has told his rival Amir Khan that his career in boxing is "finished for good" after defeating him by stoppage in Manchester

The Sheffield star rallied to a sixth round stoppage over Khan showing a dominant display of power to close the show with a heavy barrage.

Both Brook and Khan have now faced calls to hang up their gloves in the aftermath of their grudge match with both men now aged 35.

However Brook is confident he will be remembered for knocking out Khan irrespective of any continuation of his boxing journey.

"I don’t think he’ll fight again now," Brook told talkSPORT. "I think he’s finished now, for good.

“Me personally, I wanna fight, but I know that my mum and dad aren’t too fond. We’ll see what my family says.

“I’m not sure. I don’t know. I’m gonna sit down and speak to the family. It’s a grudge match that needed to happen for a long time. And listen, we made it happen for the fans and I took care of business.

“It was a one-sided fight, I told you that would happen, I told you this. I’m just happy that the fans, you’ve seen it, the world’s seen it.

“I’m gonna be remembered for this fight, everyone’s gonna remember me for knocking Amir Khan out.”

Khan started the fight brightly in the opening exchanges but quickly found himself on the back foot with Brook asserting his power and rocking his rival twice in a fast opener.

He continued to land the more meaningful punches in the fight and his opening came in the sixth round where the referee was forced to step in and end the one-sided beatdown.

Khan and Brook shared a moment of respect after the fight finally shaking hands and chatting about the settling of their long-term rivalry.

With his future now up in the air, Khan admitted he was dejected with result and hinted at retirement after claiming his "love" for the sport was dwindling.

"He put a great performance on and did everything he needed to," Khan said after the fight. "He was the best man tonight. I had a great, great training camp, but I just couldn't get going.

"I've had 40 fights, winning two world titles, fighting in America and around the world. I need to sit down with my family.

"But it is more towards the end of my career. The love for the sport isn't there anymore. In the ring, I didn't have excitement and that push. That's maybe a sign that I should call it a day but let's see."

Brook has a number of options available if he continues to fight including a bout with Floyd Mayweather.

Conor Benn has also spoken of his desire to face Brook at a catchweight, making a vengeance promise to Khan in the dressing room after their clash.
