Kell Brook's private messages suggest boxing fans favour him over Amir Khan

Kell Brook expects to be supported by the "majority" of fans in his grudge match with Amir Khan after receiving a large number of positive messages.

The pair will touch gloves during a bumper domestic showdown in Manchester on February 19 after several years of waiting for the rivalry to be settled.

Fiery tension was felt at the press conference to initially announce the bout with Brook and Khan continuing to trade verbal jabs over their status in British boxing.

Brook is encouraged by the amount of support he has received from fans in the build-up to the fight, and believes this is down to the fact the "truth" is out.

“I know me and him are not gonna see eye-to-eye, that is common knowledge," Brook exclusively told Mirror Fighting courtesy of Bet365. "I am getting the message that everybody is behind me, the truth is out now.

Kell Brook is ready to settle his rivalry with Amir Khan (PA)

"The truth is that he didn’t want the fight all that time and it’s me who wanted to give him that fight. I have been getting messages on social media like 'good luck' and it is all positive. I know he's going to have his fans but the majority will be behind me.

“I can’t wait, just the buzz and the split of the fans, and how fast it has come around in Manchester Arena. It is just going to be atmosphere and emotions and I am the reason that it is happening and I am just dead excited.

"I am going to try and keep it under wraps but it is going to be hard, there is that much emotion it is going to be hard to tone it down. He knows the score, he is going to know really quickly in the fight what time it is. From that first bell he will know what time it is."

Brook and Khan have continued to argue over the reason the fight was unable to be negotiated during their prime years.

Fans have clamoured for a fight to be made between the pair ever since their rise at a similar time through the early stages of the professional ranks.

Both men have shared the ring with some top global talent, with both men having lost to welterweight star Terence Crawford.

Khan recently claimed that the reason the fight was not on his radar in the past due to his "campaigning" in America which raised his global profile.

"I was very lucky to have the nation behind me when I came back from the Olympics" Khan said. "Made it in America, travelled, I made a lot of money from boxing. He's always felt like he was overshadowed.

"The truth is, the fight never happened earlier because I was campaigning in America and he was in the UK. I didn't think it ever needed to happen, but with the fans still talking about it, I couldn't let it go any longer. I couldn't leave the sport without taking it."
