Kell Brook criticises rival Amir Khan's choice of trainer for grudge fight

Kell Brook has questioned Amir Khan's choice of new trainer Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre ahead of their domestic grudge match.

Khan has been training at altitude in Colorado with his new coach who also works with the pair's former rival Terence Crawford.

Khan will return to the ring for the first time in over two years since his previous victory against Billy Dib and is confident he has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

Brook, however, has claimed McIntyre previously branded Khan a "quitter" and is uncertain he "even knows" Khan's boxing style.

“Khan’s trainer is new who he has never trained with before for any fight, how is he saying stuff to help him?" Brook told Mirror Fighting courtesy of Bet365.

"He doesn’t even know the man, he is the man who pointed his finger at Amir Khan and called him a quitter and was slagging him off. How are they in New York when his trainer was calling him a quitter and even Terence Crawford himself? Mad.

"Whereas I am settled like a duck to water, this is where I started and the only reason we weren’t together previously has been because of Covid. We do what we normally do and that’s work hard and be professional.

"That’s his opinion about the Ingles, Dominic knows when to push me and when to give me a day off. I am preparing for myself but obviously at the same time the way I am preparing myself is for the best Amir Khan.

"I have pushed 110 per cent, I will be physically and mentally ready to go with no excuses."

Khan has been sparring with and receiving advice from Crawford who defeated Brook in his last fight in 2020.

Meanwhile Brook has reunited with his long-term coach Dominic Ingle who has trained Brook throughout most of his career but was absent against Crawford.

Brook has been preparing during a warm-weather training camp in Fuerteventura, but has now returned back to his home town with fight week looming.

After years of waiting it looks set for the pair to finally meet with the pair continuing to argue over the reason for the fight not being made in their primes.

The Sheffield star is confident he will be well backed in Manchester in the "battle of the north" and has received several positive messages from fans.

"I am getting the message that everybody is behind me, the truth is out now," Brook continued.

"The truth is that he didn’t want the fight all that time and it’s me who wanted to give him that fight. I have been getting messages on social media like 'good luck' and it is all positive. I know he's going to have his fans but the majority will be behind me."
