Keanu Baccus watched by Huddersfield as St Mirren World Cup hopeful attracts transfer interest

Huddersfield ran the rule over St Mirren ’s World Cup hopeful Keanu Baccus at the weekend.

New Terriers boss Mark Fotheringham has a string of positive scouting reports on the Australian international. He decided to send a senior member of his scouting team to watch the all-action midfielder in Saturday’s goal-less draw with Kilmarnock. The 24-year-old has proved to be a major signing for the top six Buddies since Stephen Robinson landed him from Western Sydney Wanderers in the summer.

A number of English clubs are already interested but Huddersfield boss Fotheringham wants to remain on top of the situation. Baccus has a big few weeks ahead as he looks to gatecrash Australia’s World Cup squad. The St Mirren star won his first senior Australia cap against New Zealand last month. St Mirren full back Ryan Strain was also capped by the Socceroos last month and also has a similar dream for Qatar next month.

Australian assistant manager Rene Meulensteen was also at the St Mirren v Killie game at the weekend to check on Baccus and Strain. Strain could come into contention especially if Hearts’ Nathaniel Atkinson ’s injury leaves him struggling.
