The New York Giants have a lot of young talent lining their 90-man roster and there are several pieces they can build around. But of that group, who is the most promising?
David Kenyon of Bleacher Report recently set out to answer that very question and settled on linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux.
As if 11.5 sacks last season isn’t exciting enough, Kayvon Thibodeaux is no longer the Giants’ top edge-rusher. They acquired and extended Brian Burns, whose presence should benefit Thibodeaux in 2024. The third-year defender is positioned well to thrive this season.
Thibodeaux, who can stop the run as well as rush the passer, is certainly on an upward trajectory. The 11.5 sacks he recorded in 2023 only scratch the surface of what he’s capable of with more development.
As Kenyon notes, the presence of Brian Burns, who was acquired in an offseason trade with the Carolina Panthers, will serve Thibodeaux well. It will help create more one-on-one matchups for Thibs to exploit while nose tackle Dexter Lawrence commands extra attention on the inside.
Despite the added benefit of playing alongside Burns, ESPN’s Mike Clay projects just 8.1 sacks for Thibodeaux in 2024. We’ll take the over.
