Katie Price's legal troubles explained: From DUI to bankruptcy and Heathrow Airport arrest

Katie Price is facing more legal troubles after she was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Thursday night for her failure to attend a hearing concerning her bankruptcies.

The 46-year-old, who is currently battling a £760,000 unpaid tax bill following a second bankruptcy declaration in March, was supposed to provide testimony about her financial situation at the High Court in April. However, her lawyers claimed she was unable to attend.

At the time, a barrister informed the judge: "It's quite apparent that the evidence was filed very late and not even filed with the court. We are in a very serious situation as a consequence. She may be held in contempt of court, imprisoned, fined or a warrant issued for her arrest."

Despite being warned of the potential consequences, Price was absent from court again last month, prompting Judge Catherine Burton to issue a warrant for her arrest. She had jetted to Turkey to undergo her sixth facelift.

This incident is the latest in a series of legal and personal issues that have marked Price's two-decade career as a glamour model and reality TV star, which have included DUIs, breaking a restraining order and speeding.

Here The Standard takes a look at her legal woes over the past two decades:

(PA Wire)

2003: Katie Price avoided a speeding charge when police failed to arrest her within 12 weeks after she was allegedly caught driving 70mph in a 40mph zone in her Range Rover.

2008: She received three penalty points for talking on her mobile phone while driving on April 18.

2009: Price failed to identify the driver of her car when it was caught speeding in a 30mph zone. She later accumulated four more penalty points after being clocked at 99mph.

2010: Convicted for not being in proper control of her horsebox, which veered into another lane in February, Price received three points on her license, bringing her total to ten.

Then by December, the Celebrity Big Brother star was banned from driving for six months after being caught at 83mph in a 70mph zone in West Sussex.

2012: Price was disqualified for 12 months for failing to respond to two speeding tickets in September.

2015: The TV star was convicted of failing to stop at a red light at Buck Barn, West Grinstead in West Sussex in July.

2018: The I’m A Celeb alum was banned for six months after accumulating 12 penalty points for speeding. Then in July of that year, photos surfaced showing the reality TV star driving while still banned.

In October, she was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after crashing into a VW Golf and a hedge on a gated estate at 2am., spending 13 hours in custody.

2019: Price received a three-month driving ban for driving while disqualified. In October, Price was banned for another 18 months for not informing police who was driving her pink Range Rover during a crash in Bexley, southeast London.

Additionally, she was given a five-year restraining order for hurling abuse at her ex-husband Kieran Hayler’s partner, Michelle Penticost, during an argument in a school playground.

2021: Price crashed her BMW near her West Sussex home after drinking and taking drugs. She pleaded guilty to drink driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance, resulting in a 16-week suspended prison sentence.

2022: The TV personality admitted to breaching a restraining order that prohibited her from contacting Penticost. She avoided jailed but Lewes Crown Court gave her 170 hours of community service and was ordered to pay £1,500 costs.

In July 2022, Crawley Magistrates Court dismissed two motoring charges against Price. One charge involved speeding on September 13, 2021, while the other concerned her failure to provide information related to the incident. The case was dropped due to a lack of evidence from the prosecution.

2023: HMRC issued a bankruptcy petition regarding Price.

2024: A High Court judge ruled that Price would lose 40% of her monthly income from OnlyFans to trustees for the next three years in a separate dispute over unpaid debts. The hearing was told that told she was due to face questions about her finances in April.

She was fined £880 for driving in Northamptonshire without insurance and a license, following an incident last August while she was disqualified from driving. Later that same month, she was declared bankrupt for the second time, owing £761,994.05 to HMRC. This hearing was separate from the financial dispute raised in February.

She wasn’t present at the hearing at the Insolvency and Companies Court, claiming that she was “dealing with serious stuff”.

July 2024: A judge has issued an arrest warrant for the former glamour model after she failed to attend a hearing relating to her bankruptcies.

August 2024: Price was arrested at Heathrow Airport on her return to the UK after a different judge issued a warrant on July 30 for failing to attend a previous hearing. After disembarking the plane, she was taken into custody at a west London police station before being bailed hours later.

Then on August 9, she then appeared at the Royal Courts Of Justice at a hearing before a specialist bankruptcy judge. During the short hearing in London, Deputy Insolvency and Companies Court Judge Daniel Schaffer ordered Price to give an "undertaking" to the court that she would attend a further hearing to face questions over her finances on August 27 at 10.30am.

He said: "You have to attend that date, no ifs or buts, no going abroad, no holidays." Ms Price confirmed that she understood that she must attend and later added: "I will move my diary for it."

The hearing was held at the Rolls Building, but Price attended via a video link from an office of High Court enforcement staff at the Royal Courts of Justice nearby after arriving on foot. Wearing a beige outfit and a black head covering, the 46-year-old was accompanied by another woman throughout the hearing whom she described as an "appropriate adult"

The PA news agency understands that she was bailed the same night, with Judge Schaffer discharging the arrest warrant at the end of the hearing..

The Standard has contacted Katie Price’s rep for comment.
